The Jugbusters

Saturday 2nd April 2011, 7:30pm

The Morpeth Jugbusters is a highly entertaining,  group of eccentric singing musicians, originally formed for the Morpeth Jazz Festival.
Declared "the smash hit from left field" by the festival director, they went on to perform at all subsequent Morpeth Jazz Festivals, and many other festivals including the Newcastle and Berry Blues Festivals and Maitland Steamfest.
Reformed after an absence of four years (while members pursued other musical fantasies), The Morpeth Jugbusters has reemerged as an even more musically cohesive and surprising band.
The Morpeth Jugbuster's Repertoire consists of foot tapping jug band music blending a mixture of influences from swing, jazz, blues, folk, music hall and minstrel styles, mixed with a multicultural appendage including influences from areas as diverse as Mississippi, New Orleans, Persia and Hawaii. It includes material as uniquely varied as novelty medicine band songs from the 1860's, Jelly Roll Morton and Scott Joplin Ragtime, Memphis Jug Band and Tom Waits.

Supported by: NATALIE THOROUGHGOOD

altNat had her first guitar lesson at age 14. She regularly attends open mics at both Shenanigans Maitland and the Wickham Park Hotel. Her vocals are passionate and guitar style powerful. As she continues to perform, her work has become more disciplined and more impressive. Authentic blues with a bit of country flavour, acoustic  with lashings of steel slide, Nat has the ability to take you to that special place where Memphis Minnie, Robert Johnson Mississippi Fred McDowell still hold court.

Her hero’s are hero's Bonnie Rait, Rory Block and the masterful voice of Maria Maldur. At any time Nat's musicianship will demand your undivided attention but those magical times, when the blues gods have really possessed her, will surprise you!
