Club Concerts

Jez Lowe and Kate Bramley

Saturday 3rd March 2012, 7.30pm.

Jez Lowe Poster

Jez Lowe is one of the premier singer songwriters of the UK.

He is one of the busiest and most in-demand performers on the current acoustic music scene, and it is a great honour for the club to host this concert.
The legendary Richard Thompson describes Jez as “The best songwriter to come out of England in a long time.”

Born in County Durham to a family with coal mining connections, he has built an enviable reputation as a  songwriter and performer in the world of acoustic music.  He is a recognised ambassador for his native North East with more than a dozen albums over the last 20 years.

Kate Bramley is Jez Lowe’s special guest and has toured Australia with him before. She has a fine voice, plays fiddle, and is a songwriter in her own right.

Together they combine to produce a sensitive and lyrical accompaniment to these songs of North East.

The Judy Small and Ami Williamson Show

Saturday 1st October, 2011 7.30pm

This is Ami’s One Woman Show at it's best - Ami Williamson sings like an angel, she plays piano, drums, dulcimer and raps it all up in Cabaret, performing her own poignant songs and covers from Opera to AC/DC - this Folk Singer Show Girl will impress!" -The Australian. April 2009.

Ami WilliamsonBorn, Sydney Australia, studied at The McDonald College of Performing Arts, ranking third in NSW for HSC Music. Recorded for 2MBS-FM, ABC Classic FM and ABC Radio National as well as performing on Channel Nine's A Current Affair, Hey Hey It's Saturday, Good Morning Australia, The Midday Show, Burkes Backyard , The Today Show, 9am, and Mornings with Kerri-Anne.
“What do you get when you mix an entertainer with a songwriter? An opera singer with a comedian ? A folk singer with a set of drums ? A show girl with a poet?….. AMI!!”
Ami is one of those rare female singers. While her roots are firmly in the tradition of singer/songwriter, her richly diverse upbringing had Ami taking the stage not only in opera and classical, but also touring nationally with her father Country Music Star John Williamson performing her own material.
“She has toured Australia several times over. She’s graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and Ensemble Acting Studios.
Judy SmallAmi Williamson is an artist in her own right and bringing audiences to their feet!’ The Canberra Times. Influences: Joni Mitchell, Johnny Cash, Carol King, Kate Bush, James Taylor, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Martha Wainwright, Lucinda Williams, June Carter, Pete Seeger, Eric Bogel, Bjork Sounds Like: Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, Martha Wainwright, Lucinda Williams, June Carter

Judy Small is an Australian folk music icon. Her songs are sung all over the English-speaking world in concert halls, at political rallies and around campfires, and after more than 30 years in the music business she is still going strong, although she sings less frequently since she went back to her second love, the law in 1997.
As a performer, Judy Small is unique. Her powerfully political performances are spiced with humour, and have been described as “more like an evening with a favourite aunt than a concert”. She says that if audiences come away thinking about issues, then that is a worthwhile performance, but only if they come away feeling as though they’ve had a really good night out is it a successful performance. She has ten albums; hundreds of songs and a song book to her credit.
